An Air Purifier for a Breath of Fresh Air

One of the most important elements for the survival of human beings is air. Air is a vital component of a very complex set of respiratory functions. This air must be free of contaminants that could cause a potential health risk. Air that contains particles of dust mites, pet dander, pollen and mold spores can cause asthma, allergies and respiratory illnesses. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that indoor air is 70 times more contaminated than outside air. Airborne chemicals from flooring, insulation, paints, cleaning products and other building materials give off dangerous chemical fumes. As a result, homes and offices could potentially increase the likelihood of an allergy or respiratory problems. In order to alleviate these risk factors, it is necessary to utilize a high efficiency air purifier. A high efficiency air purifier circulates air through filters that trap toxins, and allergens, and removes them from inside air.

An air purifier works by drawing in dirty air through an inlet vent. Air then passes through a prefilter which traps large particles, then passes through a carbon filter which captures particles and reduces gases and odors. The air then passes through a filter made of tightly woven fibers to capture the smaller particles. This filter is known as a HEPA filter, which is an acronym for high efficiency particulate absorbing. These filters can absorb particles as small as 0.3 micrometers. Some units have electronic ionizers which further capture smaller particles, and particles that have escaped the previous other filters. A fan then recirculates the filtered air back into the room.

Health hazards from polluted indoor air at home or at the work place have increased the incidence of respiratory illnesses. The use of an air purifier could play a significant role in reducing these risks for healthy individuals, as well as individuals with existing conditions. Purifiers minimize contaminants in the air effectively, before they can cause harm to human tissue. It is important to note that air purifiers are only a part of a bigger solution, keeping a clean living and working environment is absolutely essential.

Do Air Purifiers Have To Be Loud?
By: www.allergy-relief-at-home.com
If you are in the market for an air purifier, you may be concerned about the noise they make. An air purifier has to run continuously to function properly and cleanse the air, but some people are concerned that they make too much noise. For people with allergies, it is recommended that an air purifier be used in the bedroom and a noisy air purifier won't lead to good sleep.

Our family has used air purifiers in all the bedrooms of our home for at least 10 years. Of course, we've exchanged air purifiers several times due to motor burnouts or just the need to replace the units. Some of the air purifiers we have used have definitely been louder than others. It took a while to become accustomed to the noise, but it has functioned as a type of "white noise" that we all now associate with restful sleep. It even helped my kids to sleep when they were babies because the constant hum of the air purifier muted out the other sounds in the house. Whenever we travel now, we have to bring an air purifier along because we've found we can't sleep without the air purifier "noise".

My favorite air purifier has been the Honeywell Enviracaire Quietcare that is in the master bedroom. This unit has been wonderful and really does not make a lot of noise. We've had this particular air purifier for the past 5 years and have only needed to replace the carbon filter and HEPA filter on it. It's worked well and I can highly recommend it to anyone needing an air purifier.

While I do not have personal experience with it, I have read reviews which state that the Whirlpool Whispure models of air purifiers are extremely quiet running. If you absolutely want a bare minimum of noise, I would recommend checking out one of these air purifiers. Likewise, with the Oreck air purifiers. In conclusion, air purifiers do not have to be loud. You will become accustomed to the constant hum they generate and the sound they make really can mute out other noises. There are numerous varieties to choose from. Visit a variety of stores and see if you can get a demo of the unit running so you can discern for yourself if it is too loud or not.
